If I am not wrong, it is human who invented machines / equipment !!! We made it to increase our comfort level !!! But are we aware that, our effectiveness reduces exponentially with the prolonged usage of some of our inventions !?!?!? This post is all about ergonomics !!!
In a nutshell, Ergonomics is matching machine to man !!!
Elaborating, every human has some inbuilt potential and abilities !!! Designing a equipment / tool / work station, considering the abilities of human being is known as ergonomics !!!
Let me tell you an example to understand more easily !!!
Consider our office table and chair !!! You are comfortable working there !!! Suppose, I replace your chair with one small stool or tripod !!! Now can you work for 8 hours continuously !?!?!?
Of course you can work - but not all through your life time !!! After few days of continuous exposure, you will be facing ergonomic diseases !!!
Ergonomic diseases are nothing new !!! At least a single person from a family would be facing an ergonomic disease !!! The most common ergonomic diseases are neck pain, back pain, sprain !!!
There is one good news and one bad news !!!
Good news is that ergonomic diseases affect you only on prolonged exposure !!! May be in years or months !!!
Bad news is that ergonomic diseases have no / very less treatment !!!
The thing to realize here is, ergonomics should be considered in planning stage itself !!! One small example again !!!
You might find easy climbing on your apartment staircase !!! But when climbing your office staircase, you might feel something difficult !!!
Poor ergonomic design is the reason for your pain !!! Now we can't change our office for such a silly reason too !!! So even if we are exposed to poorly designed area - we can protect ourselves with some basic exercises !!!
